Fayoum is one of the best activities in Cairo you do not have to miss while you are on vacation. the city is famous for its beautiful nature, fertile land, and overall archaeological sites. The Oasis of El Fayoum has two protectorate areas Wadi Al Hitan and Wadi Rayan National Parks. The best said about the city by one of the poetics who said” Cool is the dawns; tall are the trees; many are the fruits; little is the rains”.
Fayoum is about 100 km to the west of Cairo and covers a total surface of 4678 sq. Km. it comprises approximately 157 villages and 1565 very small villages(hamlets) with a population of more than 3,848,708 inhabitants. The capital of the governorate is El Fayoum, a beautiful and fertile area of Egypt. In addition, it includes two areas declared as protected by the Egyptian Government, Wadi El Hitan and Wadi Rayan.
The Fayoum is a vast depression dug in the limestone rock with a surface area of about 17.000 km². the bottom lies 45 m below sea level and the surrounding relief rises 350 meters above sea level. This depression receives water from a branch of the Nile that was canalized in ancient times, now called Bahr Youssef.

Then into Wadi El Rayan a protected area since 1989, Wadi Rayan contains rare wildlife, 169 species of birds, ancient Roman and Pharaonic ruins, plus the surreal Valley of the Whales. Wadi Rayan has two fairly large lakes, connected by a little river and Egypt’s only waterfalls.
WADI EL-HITAN is also known for scientists in the Zeuglodon Valley, have been discovered in 1936, it is located 35 KM west of the Wadi El-Ryan, right deep into the desert western desert, is It is an area of fossils; considered as an open museum, dates back to 45 million years and contains petrified primitive whales’ skeletons, shark teeth, shells and roots of Mangroves preserved in soft rocks. Everywhere you go here you find petrified sea shells and corals.

Magic Lake is a beautiful lake located in Wadi El Rayan in Fayoum. It was named the Magic Lake as it changes its colors several times a day depending on the time of year and the amount of sunlight it receives. It is an amazingly beautiful place surrounded by desert.
Seven Kilometers south of the waterfall, Along the left eastern side of the road, is a picturesque Area known as Al Mudawara, The Lookout, there are three mountains along the lakeshore, it is a favorite Picnic Area.
Then into Wadi Al Ryan Water Falls. Wadi El Rayan is a natural depression located in the western desert, Wadi Rayan consists of two lakes connected by Egypt’s only waterfalls, formed in 1970 by an overflow of drainage water from the farmlands in Fayoum. After that enjoy Medinet Madi (Ancient City Uncovered) which dates back to the third pharaonic dynasty built by Amenemhet III and completed Amenemhet IV. Late Lunch will be served at a good quality restaurant. After that transfer back to Cairo.
